TraumaSFX™ Bruise Powder is a specially designed product to simulate real-to-the-eye fresh bruises. The powder is made with cosmetic grade ingredients so it’s safe to apply directly to the top of skin to create the “in-born” look of a contusion. A very tiny bit goes a long way for a quick and easy realistic-looking results.
The powder is pressure activated along with the heat of your fingers to create the life-like color, tone depth, and patterning seen in a fresh impact injury. It generates the realistic look of capillary vessel damage, with blood trapped and pooling under the skin, the way a contusion occurs in the body.

TraumaSkin FX™ Bruise Powder is a versatile, multi-use product in rendering authentic-looking bruises, cuts, scratches, rashes, skin mottling, etc. It’s a popular product that is used on many movies, TV shows, and in casualty simulation/medical field training, especially so because it’s quick and easy to use for believable results. It works realistically on a variety of special effects appliances, including human patient simulator manikins.
The Bruise Powder is perfectly toned with correct pigments to produce a customized end result. Carefully dust it on an area very sparingly with a brush, cotton swab, stipple sponge or other soft tool to form the overall design of the injury. The powder is pressure activated, and the amount of pressure creates the red and slight bluish purple tones seen in fresh contusions. Keep in mind that the amount of product used on the skin and the amount of pressure used in working the powder determines how the bruising will ultimately render in color and depth.
Wherever it is rubbed on the skin with fingers it will produce a red tone. More friction in the same area will produce a deep bluish purplish tone to add more depth. You can deepen in color to a more purplish black tone as you work it further on the skin. To create small cut effects, apply with a spatula tool edge sparingly, and move the tool back and forth with slight motion.
A little bit goes a long way, so don’t over-do the application or the rubbing for believable realistic results. You want to maintain some red to dark bluish purple contrasts so it looks like it has real dimension, especially if you are simulating fresh bruising.
TraumaSkin FX™ Bruise Powder great to use in conjunction with other makeup products to give texture to the look, especially with alcohol activated makeups. It’s great to use as a base for frostbite too!
Once done it is somewhat water resistant, and will last on the skin for quite a while, but it’s best to seal it with a very light coat of makeup setting agent, such as Graftobian Makeup Setting Spray, which will make it waterproof and rub-proof. When sealed it will stay in place until you remove it with soap and water, or makeup remover, such as Graftobian Makeup Remover.
