Natural Silk Sea Sponge is an organic, naturally grown and ocean-harvested cosmetic sponge with a very soft, smooth non-abrasive texture when used dampened with water or other liquids. It’s handy to use with various kinds of spreadable makeup mediums because of its unique, fine-pored texture to create realistic, natural looking skin effects.
Unlike manufactured red rubber rounds or white cosmetic sponge wedges, no two Silk Sea Sponges are alike, which allows for subtle variations that mimic natural looking organic textures in the finish. They are perfect to use with either liquid makeup, or dry cake type products that must be water-activated. They apply thinned out cream-type makeup mediums for face and body work with the most natural in-born looking results.

Natural Silk Sea Sponge expands its shape to full size when wet and becomes very soft, providing consistent streak-free application results. Damp Sea Sponges don’t absorb nearly as much product as the synthetic sponges do, so they are very economical in use.
Silk Sea Sponges are great to use for special makeup effects. They provide for irregular patterns and texturing when used in a stippling technique to create delicate, understated effects. They add a softer and more subtle mottled look than other types of sponges. Use them to apply washes of color for a more transparent look, or lightly pat down and soften any harsh lines or edges creating a more diffused finish.
The sponges are routinely used by SFX artists to apply a seamless blended color finish over prosthetic appliances in a stippling or tapping motion that allows the color to fade naturally into the skin around it. The sponge’s variety in pore size helps create the uneven or irregular patterning desired in mimicking the natural discoloration of a healing injury or bruising, such as in replicating soft bruising around the eyes.
To use simply hydrate the sponge with water and wring out to the desired wetness. Silk Sea Sponges can be cut or torn into pieces to further customize the desired shape and size you need. The sponges contain innate minerals and enzymes that prevent the development of bacteria and odors, so they are washable, reusable, and long lasting when cared for properly. After each use, wash in warm water with a mild soap to remove makeup residue. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
